Diabetes Mellitus – Weakness, increased thirst, frequent urination, rapid weight loss, depression, abdominal pain, increased hunger or lack of appetite, and sudden blindness due to cataracts.
Heart Disease – Fluid build up in the lungs or abdomen, inadequate flow of blood to vital organs such as the kidneys, liver, lungs, etc., coughing—sometimes to the point of gagging, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, exercise intolerance, noticeable weight gain or loss, and abdominal distention (potbelly).
Hyperthyroidism – Weight loss despite good appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, hyperactivity, increased thirst, quick and shallow breathing, aggression, enlarged thyroid gland, poor body condition, poor coat, thickened nails, increased heart rate and heart murmur.
Hypothyroidism – Lethargy (lack of energy), inactivity, mental dullness, weight gain, hair loss or excessive shedding, dry haircoat, recurring skin infections, stiffness, and cold intolerance.
Kidney Disease – Signs of kidney disease do not show until more than two thirds of the kidney function has been lost. Signs include loss of appetite, weight loss, increased thirst, frequent or no urination, poor hair coat, depression, anemia, mouth sores, bad breath, urinary tract infection, vomiting, mental dullness and confusion.
Liver Disease – Lack of appetite and weight loss, depression, jaundice (yellowing of the skin), increased thirst, vomiting, diarrhea, dark colored urine, fluid build up in the abdomen, pale gums, and blood clotting disorders.
Cushing’s Disease – Excessive drinking and urination, increased appetite, episodes of panting and nervous pacing, abdominal distention (pot belly), reduced muscle strength resulting in falling, abnormal blood clotting, a lower ability to ward off infection, and symmetrical hair loss.
Heartworm Disease – Coughing, difficulty breathing, decreased tolerance for exercise, fainting episodes, severe weight loss, rapid heart rate, lethargy, sudden death.
Dental Disease – Gingivitis (inflamed gums), bad breath, red gums, bleeding gums, loss of teeth, decreased appetite, weight loss, and heart or kidney infection.
